James Fawcett Bailes acquired Castleton and Ravenscourt, two farms in the area between the Sabi and Sand Rivers, in 1925, as a Private Game Reserve. The Sabi Sand region was a remote corner of the lowveld, three days hard driving from the coast, teeming with game, a raw and beautiful landscape. In 1994, as South Africa was opening itself to the rest of the world, the Bailes family decided that the time had come to open Singita, their piece of Africa, to discerning visitors
Singita - Shangaan for The Miracle - is situated on 18 000ha of pristine game-viewing land in the Sabi Sands Reserve adjacent to the Kruger National Park. Singita has 20 unfenced, lavish all-suite lodges and has achieved Relais and Chateaux status for exceptional accommodation standards, service and cuisine. Situated among ebony trees on the Sand River's banks, Singita Ebony Lodge is an intimate, 18 - bed retreat. Boulders Lodge also sleeps 18 guests and both lodges have spectacular views of riverine and open bushveld plains.
Designed to offer complete exclusivity and privacy, each air-conditioned suite has a lounge, outdoor deck and pool overlooking the Sand River, plus a fireplace and en-suite bathroom with an indoor and outdoor shower. Walking and open Land Rover safaris are hosted day and night by a personal game ranger and tracker. The health and leisure spa offers aromatherapy, massage and beauty treatments in between safaris.
