Since the 1930s, Orpheus Island has attracted visitors.Fringed by sheltered bays of sandy beaches and spectacular coral gardens, the island is 11 km (7 miles) long and has 1300 hectares (3,200 acres) of protected National Park around the resort. Set in a sheltered bay on the western (mainland) side of the island, the resort caters for a maximum of 74 guests in 31private rooms. The style is distinctly Mediterranean, offering the tranquility, seclusion and privacy.
The Dining Room, Cocktail Bar and 'Quiet Lounge' are all open air and situated along the beachfront, with only the bougainvillea and palm trees to separate you from the sea.
Access to the resort is by the Orpheus seaplane. A service operates daily from Cairns (one hour travel time) and twice daily from Townsville (30 minutes).
