William Larnach, landowner, Minister of the Crown, banker, financier and merchant baron built the Castle for his first wife, Eliza Jane Guise. Construction began in 1871, and 200 workmen laboured for five years before the family moved in. Gifted European craftsmen worked for eleven more years to embellish the interiors with materials from around the world.

Lodge accommodation in a new recreation of a colonial farm building, set in the grounds of Larnach Castle 15 minutes drive from Dunedin. 12 Themed rooms including canopy bedroom, Scottish Roon, Rhododendron Room, Enchantered forest, Sea room etc. All with panoramic views.
