A spacious Victorian mansion combining luxury accommodation, cuisine and wines. Situated high on a hill above Oamaru overlooking the sea to the east and mountains to the west, is Pen-y-bryn (est. 1889) - the largest single storied timber dwelling in the South Island. The Lodge is an Historic Places Trust Category 1 property, and includes furniture and fittings collected from around the world over a century ago coupled with the facilities of today. The Lodge sits amongst 1½ acres of landscaped gardens surrounded by mature trees.
There are five guest rooms each well decorated and with private ensuite. One includes the original pedestal bath with brass tapware. The Lodge cuisine features fine local produce.
Pen-y-bryn is located on the southern boundary of Oamaru on the East Coast of the South Island, one hour north of Dunedin, 2½ hours south of Christchurch, 2 hours from Mt Cook and 3 hours from Queenstown.
